Will the military help pay off my college loans?

Written By: admin on May 27, 2009 2 Comments

As of right now I am an ROTC cadet. I don't plot on contracting until my Jr. year of college so for the first two years I will be taking out college loans. After I graduate and become a 2nd Lt. is there anyway that the government will help pay off my college loans or will I have to pay them myself with my own salary?

Yes. The Army has the SLR plot.

The Student loan repayment plot has to be requested when you join and it is for both enlisted and officer. They repay up to $65,000 of the original loan, not any of the interest. Each year they pay off 1/3 of your loan. You are in charge of putting your loans in deferment or forbearance.

I don't know what the policy on ROTC, you may need to check into that.

I reckon it is a fantastic deal compared to the GI Bill.
